[QUOTE=Tengauge12;39091][COLOR="DeepSkyBlue"]mIRC Help:

You have downloaded yourself a copy of the latest mIRC, correct? If not, you can get a copy from the mIRC Homepage at http://www.mIRC.com Once it is downloaded, there will be a mIRC setup icon on your desktop (or possibly in a yellow folder) Go ahead and double-click on this, and let it install itself to your computer's harddrive. Accepting all the defaults it sets will work just fine.

Once mIRC is installed, you will have a colorful mIRC icon on your desktop to click on to startup your program. As you venture into new territory and actually start the program, one of the first windows you will see is one of Khaled Mardam-Bey. It's a welcome screen, and will disappear once you register your copy of mIRC. The fee is only $20, You do not need to register your copy, even after the 30days you can still use it for FREE. So, don't worry about it ;)

You can close down the welcome screen by clicking on the X in the upper right-hand corner, and you are now ready to fill in some basic information needed by mIRC so that we can use the program.

The first window you'll see will look similar to this:

mIRC Screen Shot - First Window

I know, it looks eerie the first time we see this :) Let's look at the first item we need to select, the "IRC Servers"

mIRC Screenshot

Servers:
A server is basically a computer with software (program) that allows us to join up with others using the same services. As you'll see, there are probably close to 350 servers listed, from locations all over the world. Don't worry, it's not as confusing as it looks. They are broken down into groups: Efnet, Dalnet, Starlink, Undernet, etc. Each group of servers is it's own little community, or neighborhood, meaning that each group of servers has it's own group of channels, it's own rules, and there ARE differences between different nets.

You'll need to decide which group of servers you'd like to join, then pick a particular server you'd like to join. Our #Mystic is located on the SytheIRC group of servers. Which you will not find in the list. So, just click on the " ADD " button to the left and for 'Description' type in "Mystic'. Under 'Server' type in "irc.sythe.irc". You'll be leaving the port the same '6667'. Don't worry about 'Group' or 'Password'. Now, you'll notice that there is a new tab named 'Mystic '. Double click on it, and it should close out and take you to the previous screen. Once connected to a server, then we'll be able to join a channel. A channel is the actual place (AOL calls them rooms) where chats occur. One thing to remember, all of the Mystic Servers are interconnected with all of the SytheIRC Channels (this means that you can join any of the SytheIRC Servers to reach any of the SytheIRC Channels).

Remaining Items to Fill In...

mirc

Full Name:
Hint: Nobody needs to know your real name. In fact, it's best to not give out any personal information until you've gotten to know folks better. (And even then, use caution). Just use anything in here. Most people usually put something humorous in this spot, or a quote -- anything but our real names :)

E-Mail Address:
Tip: It's not necessary to put your actual real e-mail address here. You can list whatever you want. Nothing that I have listed here is correct information.

Nickname:
This is the fun part. People pick names based on a wide variety of reasons. My nickname is Tengauge12 (I rather not tell you why that is my name, cause it is not appropriate..).

Alternative:
It's a good idea to have a backup nick, just in case someone else is using your first choice. There is nick ownership on the SytheIRC, so if someone is on it... I'll explain the commands in a little ;)

Changing your nick... Type; /nick NEWNICK

Replacing NEWNICK with a desiered nickname you wish to use. IE: I would type; /nick Tengauge12

We're ready for the next step! Joining IRC :)

Connecting to IRC

Connect to Server:
This connection means that your ISP is dialing into this server (computer), and if there's enough connections available, you'll get connected. If not, you'll get an error message, so just pick a different server. Keep trying until you see the MOTD, or Message of the Day, of the server. It will usually fly by faster than you can read it. The good news is that you are now ready to join a channel when you see the following scroll by.

Also if the previous did not work for you.. Type this where you would normally type on mIRC. Just close the Options menu and type this where you type at

/server irc.sythe.org

Congratulations!

After you get logged on, normally a window will pop open with a listing of a few channels you may wish to join. You are free to choose one of them, or click off the window and type in your choice.

Let's Join a Channel

Since this IS the website for #Mystic, we will type /join #Mystic You should enter a very busy, lively, and exciting new time of learning. IRC presents many challenges to many people -- those needing to learn new skills, those maybe not able to make new friends easily...ALL can learn here, and can make IRC whatever they wish it to be. Happy Chatting, Everyone -- and Enjoy the Journey.........

After you have connected and joined the #Mystic channel. I will be more than happy to answer ANY question you're in need of assistance with. If you're not able to connect or is confused. Just make a post here ;)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IRC Commands:

SERVER new-server-hostname

Each server is known by a "hostname" such as irc.HOSTNAME.net/org/com etc. Just specify the hostname to connect or switch to that server. For example:

/SERVER irc.sythe.org

You then see the following messages indicating your client has successfully connected to that server.

*** Looking up your hostname...
*** Found your hostname (cached)
*** Checking Ident
*** Got Ident response

/NICK new-nickname

Change the nickname by which you are known. Nicknames are usually limited to 9 characters. For example, if your default nick was "foo" and you want to change it to "MysticRules" You would type:

/NICK MysticRules
*** foo is now known as YourNick

/LIST

Lists IRC channels, number of users, and topic for each. This is how you find places to go meet people and chat.

/LIST
*** Channel Users Topic
*** #Mystic 1 http://www.Mystic.com
*** #Help 6 If you're in need of any IRc assistance ask here ;)
[remainder of list not shown]

If you're on a big network, this list may be very long, up to many thousands of channels! It may even cause you to flood yourself off so that you get disconnected from the server. If that happens, just re-connect.

You can also search for specific keywords by using /LIST keyword in mIRC, or /LIST *keyword* in ircII. Note this may or may not be any faster or safer than a full list depending on the network.

/NAMES #channel-name

Shows the nicknames of all users on that channel. While theoretically this is supposed to work whether or not you are on that channel, in practice most people these days are set to be "invisible" and thus do not show up on such queries unless you are in the same channel already.

/NAMES #Mystic
Pub: #Mystic @Tengauge12 @Mystic +Shawn

The "@" symbols show that I am an Op "channel ops", and that Shawn been given a "voice". These terms will be described in more detail in the channel modes section later.

/WHOIS nickname

Shows information about the nick specified.

/WHOIS Tengauge12
John is Alien@Mystic.com * John Ashlock
John is a registered nick
John is on ~#Mystic #Sythe ~#crystal-x @#Help @#EliteSwitch
John using server irc.sythe.org (Official Sythe.org IRC Server)
John has been idle 1hours 34mins 1secs, signed on Wed, 18 Jun 2008 10:23:26 Central Standard Time
John End of /WHOIS list.

The "Alien@Mystic.com" looks like an email address but actually it is my identifying "username" on the network. It's also considered a Vhost.

The second line shows he is on the "public" channels #Mystic and #Sythe, #Crystal-X, #Help as-well as #Eliteswitch and the @ symbol means he is an operator on #help and #EliteSwitch. The ~ symbol means I am the owner of the channel.. It doesn't show other, "secret" channels he might be on. Finally the third line shows which IRC server he is using.

/AWAY away-message-here

Leave a message explaining that you are not currently paying attention to IRC.

/AWAY Busy raging on CS:S ;)
You have been marked as being away

If my friend does /whois Tengauge12, they will get the 3 lines as described in the /whois section above, plus a final line saying:
*** Tengauge12 is away: Busy raging on CS:S ;)

/AWAY without any additional argument will remove the away message.

/AWAY
You are no longer marked as being away (or something to that effect)

/QUIT [optional farewell message]

Exits IRC (also leaves any channels you may be on).

/QUIT Mystic FUCKING ALL!
*** Signoff: Tengauge12 (Mystic OWNS ALL)

/JOIN #Mystic

Changes your current channel to the channel specified. If the channel does not exist already, it will be created and you will be in charge of the new channel and be a channel operator or "op" - more on that later.

/JOIN #Mystic
[14:37:46] * Attempting to rejoin #Mystic...
[14:37:47] * Rejoined channel #Mystic
[14:37:47] * irc.sythe.org set mode: +nt
[14:37:47] * ChanServ set mode: +r
[14:37:47] * ChanServ changed the topic to 'Mystic Community. If not registered please visit; http://www.Mystic.com'
[14:37:47] * Mystic (Hack@Mystic.com) has joined #Mystic
[14:37:47] * Mystic set mode: +ao Mystic Mystic
[14:37:47] <Mystic> [Tengauge12] If you notice this notice. You will notice this notice is not worth noticing...
[14:37:47] * Mystic set mode: +q Tengauge12

When you join a channel, everything that everybody says is preceded by their nicknames so others can tell who is saying what. e it!

You type:
Mystic Owns!
Everybody sees:
<Tengauge12> Mystic Owns!

/ME your message here

Performs an action on a channel. Unlike talking normally, actions do not start with <YourNick>. Use /ME in the third person (verbs like "is", "does", "runs", etc.).

/ME uses Mystic Private

* Tengauge12 uses Mystic Private

/PART #channel_name message

Leaves the specified channel, or if no channel is specified, leaves the current channel.

/LEAVE #Mystic I love you, Mystic.
You have parted the channel #Mystic. (I love you, Mystic.)

/notice nickname message

Use the /MSG command to send someone a message that only that person can read. Say "Tengauge12" my friend "Shawn".

/notice Shawn Hello, how are you?

On your screen, you would see:
-> *Shawn* Hello, how are you?

On buddy's screen, he sees:
*Tengauge12* Hello, how are you?

To answer such a message, Shawn would type:
/notice Tengauge12 Fine, thanks!

Also there is another format. Which will open up a new window TAB within the mIRc client for chatting. Although this will only be seen by you and the person you're talking to.

/QUERY nickname message-here

In mIRC, if you initiate a /notice you don't get a "query" window the message will be displayed in whatever channel you're currently viewing. You can set up a "query" window on your side right from the beginning by using the /QUERY command:

/QUERY Shawn You there?

You can have a private conversation by using /notice nickname repeatedly, but that can get cumbersome. That's where the QUERY command comes in handy. When you issue the above command, all subsequent text will be send as private messages to that nickname, except for "/irchelp/" commands.

Here's an example of a private conversation between you as "Tengauge12" and my friend "Shawn", as seen from your point of view. Statements from your IRC client program.

/QUERY Shawn Hello!
*** Starting conversation with buddy
<John> Hello!
<Shawn> Hey
<John> So, you like Mystic?
<Shawn> Hell yeah. Thank you for showing me it. It was awesome dude ;)
<Shawn> Thanks!
<Shawn> You there?
<John> Yes!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, I think I am finished.. I have alot of other commands I could say, but it will just get confusing then cause their commands to kick people and stuff, although these commands for kicking and stuff you will need to have access to do so. I hope yyou enjoy reading, and I would love to see you on the network and in the channel!! Any questions PLEASE ASK!

Thank you.
